It’s hot in California.
Several cities in the Golden State tied or broke heat records this week — not just for the date, but for their entire recorded history.
Idyllwild reached 104 degrees today, tying the city’s highest temperature ever. Palmdale tied its record high set on July 4 with 110 degrees on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. That record was originally set in 1973.
Palm Springs, no stranger to thermometer-busting heat, reached 125 degrees today, beating the city’s previous record of 123 degrees, last seen on June 17, 2021.
Las Vegas has the potential to see temperatures soar above 117 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday or Monday, an all-time record.
But all that is nothing compared to what is yet to come.
Death Valley, which also measured 48 degrees today, is expected to be 48 degrees tomorrow and 48 degrees on Sunday. There is a good chance that it will reach the highest temperature ever on earth, namely 56 degrees Celsius.
